What is cupping and how does it work?
Cupping is a vacuum or negative pressure therapy that uses glass or plastic cups. Fire is used with traditional glass cups to create the suction and is called fire cupping. In modern times many practitioners use plastic cups and a hand held pump to create the suction. Cupping is great for chronic myofascial pain (muscle pain) by stimulating angiogenesis (new blood vessel growth) which:
- improves blood circulation to affected area reducing muscle tension and spasms
- brings more oxygen and nutrients to muscles for better function
- flushes inflammatory debris to aid muscle repair
